Job Description:
Ubulu Africa is seeking a visionary Senior Data & AI Engineer to join our team in a hybrid capacity. This is a high-impact, senior individual contributor role that offers significant leadership reach. You will be the technical cornerstone of our data and AI function, tasked with designing intelligent systems, shaping our research outputs through the Ubulu AI Lab, and mentoring the next generation of engineers. Requirements:
End-to-End AI Engineering: Own the full lifecycle of data infrastructure and AI models, from architecture and pipeline design to production deployment, monitoring, and iterative improvement.
Technical Leadership: Set the technical direction for our AI initiatives. Provide mentorship to our Associate Data & AI Engineer, fostering a culture of rigorous engineering and continuous learning.
Innovation & Application: Apply Machine Learning, NLP, and AI agent frameworks to solve complex challenges within the enterprise and African innovation ecosystems.
Research & Advisory: Represent the Ubulu AI Lab by contributing high-quality research, technical insights, and advisory outputs for our clients and partners.
Collaborative Development: Partner closely with product, program, and engineering colleagues to embed AI capabilities where they deliver the most meaningful value.
Qualifications and Skills:
Experience: 5+ years of hands-on experience in data engineering, Machine Learning, or applied AI.
Production Track Record: A proven history of taking AI solutions from conceptual design all the way through to successful production deployment and maintenance.
Technical Proficiency:
Strong foundations in data architecture, scalable pipeline design, and model development.
Advantage: Expertise in NLP, conversational AI, or AI agent development.
