Job Description:
- The role involves preparing cost estimates, bills of quantities, tender documentation, contract administration, cost control, valuation of works, and ensuring that projects are completed within approved budgets while maintaining quality standards.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities
Cost Planning and Estimation:
- Prepare detailed cost estimates and project budgets based on drawings and specifications.
- Conduct quantity take-offs and measurements for construction works.
- Prepare Bills of Quantities (BOQs) and schedules of rates.
- Provide cost advice and value engineering recommendations during project planning and design stages.
- Evaluate project feasibility from a cost perspective.
Tendering and Procurement:
- Prepare tender documents and contract packages.
- Analyze and evaluate contractor and supplier bids.
- Assist in the selection and appointment of contractors and subcontractors.
- Prepare comparative analyses of quotations and procurement recommendations.
- Negotiate prices and contract terms where necessary.
Contract Administration:
- Administer construction contracts and ensure compliance with contractual obligations.
- Review and certify contractors' interim payment applications.
- Prepare variation orders and assess the cost implications of design changes.
- Monitor contractual claims and resolve commercial disputes.
- Maintain accurate records of contract documentation and correspondence.
Cost Control and Financial Management:
- Monitor project expenditures and ensure adherence to approved budgets.
- Track project costs and prepare regular cost reports.
- Identify potential cost overruns and recommend corrective actions.
- Conduct cost forecasting and cash flow projections.
- Ensure effective financial management throughout the project lifecycle.
Project Monitoring and Site Coordination:
- Conduct site visits to verify work progress and completed quantities.
- Collaborate with architects, engineers, project managers, and contractors to ensure project objectives are achieved.
- Monitor project progress against cost and schedule targets.
- Assist in project close-out activities, including final account preparation and settlement.
Documentation and Reporting:
- Prepare monthly valuation reports and project cost summaries.
- Maintain records of measurements, variations, claims, and payments.
- Generate management reports on project financial performance.
- Prepare final accounts upon project completion.
Requirements:
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's Degree in Quantity Surveying or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in quantity surveying within the construction industry.
- Membership or registration with a recognized professional body is an added advantage.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, AutoCAD, and quantity surveying software.
- Strong knowledge of construction contracts, procurement processes, and cost management principles.
