PROCESS ENGINEER - ENGINEERING DESIGN AT STERLING OIL EXPLORATION & ENERGY PRODUCTION COMPANY (SEEPCO) | ENGINEERING JOBS IN LAGOS

Lagos, Nigeria | Posted on 13/03/2026

About Company:

Sterling Oil Exploration and Energy Production Company (SEEPCO) is an Oil Exploration & Energy Production Company Ltd. We are continuously striving to innovate, grow and impact communities around us.

Job Description:

We are seeking a high-precision and technically rigorous Process Engineer to anchor our engineering design and plant optimization efforts in Lagos. In the heavy chemical and energy sectors, success is defined by "Process Integrity", the ability to harmonize complex electrolysis, gas handling, and chemical treatment systems into a safe, high-yield production engine. This role is designed for a "Systems Architect" who can blend "Advanced Simulation Mastery" with the "Engineering Design Rigor" required to manage hazardous chemical lifecycles.

Your mission is to ensure "Absolute System Stability and Yield Optimization." You will be the primary steward of our chemical processes: responsible for validating P&IDs, conducting HAZOP reviews, and optimizing the performance of Membrane Cell Technology. If you possess "Exceptional Troubleshooting Grit," expertise in Aspen HYSYS, and a deep understanding of Chlorine and Hydrogen safety systems, we want you to drive our technical sovereignty.

Requirements:

1. Systems Design & Simulation Architecture

  • Design Validation: Review and validate high-fidelity engineering documents, including Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs), P&IDs, and Heat & Material Balances (HMB).

  • Simulation Mastery: Conduct advanced process simulations and performance analyses using Aspen HYSYS or Aspen Plus to predict system behavior and optimize throughput.

  • Component Specification: Review vendor technical documents and process guarantees to ensure all hardware aligns with the overall chemical architecture.

2. Operational Optimization & Yield Engineering

  • Plant Performance: Monitor and optimize complex systems, including Electrolysis, Brine Treatment, Chlorine Handling, and HCl synthesis.

  • Yield Maximization: Implement initiatives to optimize the yield of Caustic Soda, Chlorine, and HCl while driving energy-saving and process-improvement projects.

  • Commissioning Support: Provide technical leadership during plant start-up, commissioning, and performance guarantee tests to ensure design specifications are met.

3. Process Safety & Regulatory Governance

  • Risk Architecture: Participate in and lead HAZOP (Hazard and Operability Studies), Risk Assessments, and Process Safety Reviews (PSM) to ensure a "Zero-Harm" environment.

  • Hazardous Logistics: Ensure the safe handling, drying, and liquefaction of volatile chemicals, specifically Chlorine ($Cl_2$), Hydrogen ($H_2$), and Hydrochloric Acid ($HCl$).

  • Compliance Stewardship: Maintain strict adherence to ISO, IEC, API, and environmental standards, overseeing effluent treatment and regulatory reporting.

4. Troubleshooting & Collaborative Engineering

  • Root Cause Analysis: Troubleshoot process upsets and implement rapid corrective actions to maintain production continuity.

  • Interdisciplinary Synergy: Coordinate effectively with Mechanical, Electrical, and Instrumentation teams to ensure holistic system integration.

  • Standardization: Prepare comprehensive Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), operating manuals, and high-level technical reports.

Qualifications and Skills:

Professional Profile

  • Education: Relevant Degree in Chemical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.

  • Technical Expertise: Strong knowledge of Membrane Cell Technology and the Electrolysis process.

  • System Knowledge: Expertise in Brine purification, dechlorination, and Chlorine compression/liquefaction systems.

  • Software Mastery: High proficiency in Aspen HYSYS / Aspen Plus and Mass & Energy Balance calculations.

Core Competencies

  • Material Intelligence: Understanding of corrosion and material selection specific to Chlorine and acidic services.

  • Analytical Grit: Strong troubleshooting and root cause analysis (RCA) skills.

  • Safety Sovereignty: Deep knowledge of Process Safety Management (PSM) and environmental compliance.
