Job Description:
We are seeking a methodical and high-integrity Payroll Assistant to anchor our compensation and benefits function. Reporting directly to the Payroll Accountant, you will be a critical guardian of our employee data, ensuring that every salary, deduction, and statutory contribution is processed with surgical precision.
Your mission is to support the seamless delivery of the monthly payroll cycle while ensuring 100% compliance with Nigerian tax laws and labor regulations. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented individual with 1–2 years of experience who thrives in a structured, "zero-error" environment. Requirements:
1. Payroll Processing & Data Integrity
Records Governance: Maintain and update the master employee payroll database, ensuring all changes to salaries, allowances, and benefits are captured accurately.
Cycle Support: Assist in the end-to-end preparation of the monthly payroll, ensuring that net pay calculations align with company policy and employee contracts.
Confidentiality: Serve as a trusted custodian of sensitive financial data, ensuring all payroll information is handled with the highest level of discretion.
2. Statutory Compliance & Deductions
Nigerian Regulatory Compliance: Support the accurate computation of statutory deductions including PAYE (Tax), Pension, NSITF, ITF, and WHT, ensuring the organization remains in good standing with relevant authorities.
Audit Readiness: Assist in the preparation of schedules and documentation for internal and external payroll audits, ensuring all transactions are transparent and verified.
Reconciliation: Assist in the monthly reconciliation of payroll data to resolve discrepancies and ensure the general ledger reflects actual disbursements.
3. Support & Communication
Employee Relations: Act as the first point of contact for basic payroll inquiries, providing clear and professional explanations regarding payslips and deductions.
Analytical Support: Prepare supporting documentation and payroll schedules for review by the Payroll Accountant, ensuring all data is organized and scannable.
Policy Adherence: Ensure all operational activities strictly follow internal controls and company-specific administrative guidelines.
Qualifications and Skills:
Professional Profile
Education: HND or B.Sc. in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration.
Experience: 1–2 years in a payroll or accounting support role is preferred.
Technical IQ: Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (vlookups, pivot tables) is essential. Experience with specialized payroll software is a strong advantage.
Regulatory Knowledge: Basic understanding of Nigerian labor laws and statutory tax requirements.
