Job Description:
- The Microbiologist is responsible for carrying out aseptic sampling and microbial analysis of water, raw materials, intermediates, finished products, production equipment, and manufacturing environments to ensure compliance with quality and regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out aseptic sampling of water, materials, intermediates, finished products, and cleaning-in-place machine samples for microbial analysis.
- Conduct microbial analysis of water, materials, intermediates, finished products, and cleaning-in-place machine samples.
- Inspect cleaned production equipment and environments during product changeover and perform surface contact sampling and analysis.
- Calibrate laboratory measuring equipment and devices.
- Prepare and sterilize culture media, glassware, and reagents for microbial analysis.
- Maintain inventory records of culture media and other microbiology laboratory items.
- Perform microbiological monitoring of bore-hole water, potable water, and purified pharmaceutical water systems.
- Conduct microbiological monitoring of critical manufacturing environments and report pre- and post-fumigation activities, including CAPA recommendations for OOS results.
- Conduct periodic finger dab testing to assess hygiene practices of production personnel.
- Carry out microbiological testing and monitoring of research and development products for stability studies.
- Document test results appropriately in laboratory notebooks and maintain trend records.
- Report non-conforming products and prepare OOS documentation where necessary.
Requirements:
- B.Sc. Degree in Microbiology, or a related field
- 1-3 years of relevant experience in a pharmaceutical or related laboratory environment.
Key Competencies:
- Knowledge of aseptic sampling, inspection, and microbial testing procedures.
- Proficient in the operation of laminar flow chambers, incubators, autoclaves, colony counters, UV/Visible spectrophotometers, and related laboratory equipment.
- Strong understanding of microbiological monographs, interpretation, and application of generated results.
- Ability to perform laboratory analysis according to approved specifications and standards.
- Understanding of laboratory equipment maintenance procedures.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Good documentation and reporting skills.
- High level of integrity and attention to detail.
- Ability to work effectively with minimal supervision and collaborate across departments.
