Job Description:
The Legal & Compliance Liaison Officer will represent the company in all legal and compliance matters, act as the main point of contact with law enforcement agencies, regulatory authorities, and government bodies, and ensure the organisation operates within the framework of applicable laws, regulations, and corporate governance standards.
Responsibilities:
- Representation in Legal Matters – Represent the company in legal proceedings, official hearings, mediations, and dispute resolution processes, ensuring the company’s interests are effectively communicated and protected.
- Law Enforcement & Regulatory Liaison – Serve as the primary contact for law enforcement agencies, regulators, and government institutions, managing all official interactions and fostering professional relationships.
- Legal Advisory Support – Provide legal advice and guidance to senior management and departments, including drafting, reviewing, and interpreting contracts, agreements, and official legal documents.
- Regulatory Compliance Management – Monitor, interpret, and implement changes in laws and regulations, ensuring the company remains compliant with all statutory and industry requirements.
- Risk Identification & Mitigation – Identify potential legal and compliance risks, develop mitigation strategies, and provide training to employees on relevant legal and regulatory requirements.
- Internal Investigations & Reporting – Lead investigations into potential violations of laws, regulations, or company policies, prepare detailed reports, and recommend corrective measures.
- Contract Oversight – Negotiate, review, and approve company contracts to ensure compliance with applicable laws and organisational policies, while maintaining a structured contract management system.
- Corporate Governance & Ethics – Support adherence to corporate governance principles, advise the board and senior officials on compliance matters, and promote the company’s ethical standards and code of conduct.
- Regulatory Reporting & Documentation – Ensure timely and accurate submission of required reports to regulatory bodies and maintain organised records of all legal correspondences, meetings, and outcomes.
- Collaboration with External Legal Counsel – Coordinate with external legal advisers for litigation, regulatory matters, and compliance audits, ensuring alignment with the company’s legal strategy.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Law, Criminology, or related field.
- Minimum of 6 years relevant work experience in law, legal counsel liaison, and compliance management.
- Proven experience interfacing with various law enforcement agencies such as the Police, EFCC, DSS, and other regulatory bodies.
- Strong understanding of legal frameworks, compliance regulations, and investigative procedures.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and conflict-resolution skills.
- High level of integrity, discretion, and professionalism in handling sensitive matters.
- Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple cases or compliance issues simultaneously.
