Job Description:
We are seeking a strategic and legally-grounded Head of Recovery to architect and execute Moniepoint’s debt recovery framework. In this high-impact leadership role, you will be responsible for minimizing credit losses and reducing non-performing loan (NPL) provisions through a sophisticated blend of legal strategy and operational excellence.
As a qualified legal professional, you will not only manage the department but also design its organizational structure, recruit high-caliber talent, and navigate complex delinquency cases across all six geo-political zones in Nigeria. You are a data-driven leader who can translate legal expertise into efficient, scalable recovery tactics.
Requirements:
Strategic Recovery & Legal Oversight
Framework Architecture: Develop and execute high-level recovery strategies to significantly reduce bad debt provisions and optimize NPL resolution.
Primary Legal Strategist: Act as the lead legal authority for the recovery department, ensuring every action complies with Nigerian financial regulations and debt collection laws.
Litigation & Asset Recovery: Leverage deep legal expertise to manage complex debt litigation and asset seizure processes.
Operational Leadership & Talent Management
Organizational Design: Design the recovery unit’s structure and lead the hiring process to build a network of elite recovery talent.
Performance Optimization: Set clear Objectives and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to evaluate the efficacy of recovery tactics and personnel performance.
Capacity Building: Provide continuous training to the recovery network, ensuring alignment with industry best practices and internal strategies.
Stakeholder Engagement & Collaboration
External Liaison: Manage sensitive engagements with law enforcement agencies, regulatory bodies, and external legal counsel to expedite debt resolution.
Internal Alignment: Collaborate with the Credit, Legal, Risk, and Finance departments to ensure recovery efforts are synchronized with the broader business objectives.
Executive Reporting: Provide data-backed insights and performance reports to the executive team and senior management.
Qualifications and Skills:
Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Law (LLB) and called to the Nigerian Bar.
Experience:
Minimum of 7 years of experience specifically in debt recovery, litigation, and credit recovery within the Nigerian financial sector.
Proven track record of managing high-value NPLs and leading recovery teams.
Geographic Reach: Extensive experience handling recovery operations in each of the 6 geo-political zones in Nigeria.
Network: A strong, existing network of legal and law enforcement contacts across the country.
Technical Skills:
Deep knowledge of Nigerian banking regulations and court procedures.
Data Analytics: Proficiency in interpreting financial data and statistics to drive recovery performance.
