Job Description:

We are seeking a diligent and ethically grounded Risk & Internal Control Officer to serve as a critical link between our risk oversight framework and field operations. In this hands-on role, you will proactively identify and investigate cases of misconduct among Business Relationship Managers (BRMs), ensuring that our growth remains aligned with internal control standards. You will spend significant time in the field, utilizing critical thinking to distill raw observations into actionable risk insights that protect the integrity of our network.

The ideal candidate is an investigative professional who can balance professional distance with the ability to build trust across diverse stakeholder groups.

Requirements:

Investigations & Field Monitoring

• Misconduct Investigation: Lead targeted inquiries into suspected double-dealing, agent impersonation, unauthorized onboarding, and other unethical field behaviors.

• Validation Exercises: Conduct unannounced field inspections to verify BRM claims, agent status, and strict policy compliance.

• Intelligence Gathering: Interview agents, merchants, and supervisors to gather objective intelligence and document findings in structured reports.

Risk-Based Data Review

• Metric Analysis: Analyze BRM activity reports and operational metrics to detect behavioral red flags, irregularities, or risk exposures.

• Data Correlation: Cross-reference field data with internal dashboards to ensure the integrity and accuracy of our reporting systems.

• Trend Escalation: Flag suspicious trends for further review by the broader Risk, Compliance, or Internal Audit teams.

Internal Control & Reporting

• Control Testing: Assess the effectiveness of controls governing the agent lifecycle—from recruitment to offboarding—and recommend enhancements to close identified gaps.

• Evidence-Backed Reporting: Prepare concise investigation reports highlighting root causes and recommended corrective actions.

• Strategic Contribution: Maintain secure logs of field engagements and contribute to quarterly risk dashboards for management and board-level reporting.

Stakeholder Liaison

• Risk Contact: Act as the primary point of contact for risk-related concerns from regional leads and frontline employees.

• Independence: Maintain professional distance from BRMs to ensure objectivity and ethical independence in all assessments.

Qualifications and Skills:

• Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Risk Management, Internal Control, Business Administration, Finance, Criminology, or a related field.

• Experience: * Minimum of 3 years of experience in internal control, field audit, or investigative roles.

  • Specific experience within Financial Services, Fintech, or Agent Networks is required.

• Technical Skills:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel; experience with Power BI or Tableau is a plus.

  • Prior exposure to POS distribution networks or agent banking frameworks.

• Core Competencies:

  • Investigative Mindset: Strong analytical skills with the ability to navigate informal environments.

  • Integrity: Absolute discretion in managing sensitive information and workplace misconduct.

  • Communication: Excellent report-writing skills; the ability to speak Hausa, Igbo, or Yoruba is highly preferred.
