Job Description:
- We are seeking a highly skilled and self-motivated Field Mechanical Engineer to join our Aftersales team.
- In this role, you will be responsible for the troubleshooting, maintenance, repair, and overhaul of diesel and gas generator sets at customer sites.
- You will ensure minimal downtime and maximum efficiency for our clients' critical power systems.
- You must be comfortable working independently, managing a busy service schedule, and diagnosing complex mechanical issues in the field.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine preventative maintenance on generator sets (oil changes, filter replacements, coolant checks) according to OEM specifications and service schedules.
- Diagnose and repair mechanical faults on diesel engines (e.g., Perkins, Cummins, Deutz, MTU, Caterpillar), alternators, and cooling systems.
- Conduct load bank testing, vibration analysis, and thermographic surveys to ensure system health.
- Overhaul engines and components (cylinder heads, fuel injectors, turbochargers) as required.
- Respond to emergency breakdown calls and provide rapid on-site troubleshooting to restore power.
- Analyze control system alarms and mechanical symptoms to identify root causes of failure.
- Provide technical guidance to clients on generator operation and minor troubleshooting.
- Conduct site surveys to assess installation conditions, fuel quality, and exhaust systems.
- Prepare detailed and accurate service reports, timesheets, and condition reports immediately after each site visit.
- Advise clients on potential issues, recommended repairs, and future service requirements.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree or Higher National Diploma (HND) in Mechanical Engineering, Marine Engineering, or a related field.
- Must have 5 – 7 years of hands-on experience in servicing and repairing diesel/gas generators (10 kVA – 1000 kVA+).
- Deep understanding of 4-stroke diesel engine principles, alternator construction (AVR function), fuel systems, and cooling systems.
- Valid driver’s license (ability to drive a manual vehicle is essential).
- Proficiency with mechanical diagnostic tools, digital multimeters, and engine control unit (ECU) software is highly desirable.
