Job Description:
- Safritecture is looking for an experienced individual to act as its Chief Legal Officer (CLO), to take care of our day-to-day legal operations.
- Our audacious plan is to establish viable Safritecture offices in the capital cities of each sovereign African state between Q2 2026 and Q1 2027.
- Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), you will be expected to provide full legal support and documentation for the entire organization.
- The ability to problem solve, use your own judgement, think creatively, and work calmly under pressure are all essential skills to the role.
- Participation in the monthly Command Centre Meetings and policy formation in line with the Safritecture Business Model is mandatory, as you are expected to anchor the legal presentations.
- Registration with the necessary legal governing bodies in Nigeria is compulsory.

Contract Type: Annual
Working Hours: 8am to 6pm. Monday – Friday. Flexible hours policy
Tools: Company car, new laptop.

Roles and Responsibilities
- The primary responsibility of a CLO is to oversee the legal department and ensure that the organization is operating within the bounds of the law. This includes interpreting laws, rules, and regulations that are relevant to the company’s operations.
- A Safritecture CLO does much more than this, and being an exceptional legal talent is the non-negotiable starting point.
- Ideally, you should also be a strategic thinker and a senior executive. Operating at the highest and most impactful level within Safritecture, you should have the ability (or at least the strong desire to acquire the ability) to execute the four following roles:
Strategist:
- As a strategist, you are in the position to bring a clear legal strategy that supports and enables business strategy.
- In association with the Head of Communications (HOC) and the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) you are to provide the CEO and the Board with legal guidance that enables the achievement of Safritecture ’s growth objectives.
Responsibilities include:
- Building strong relationships with Safritecture leadership teams.
- Building strong relationships with board members.
- Understanding the strategy and value creation levers for the business, and reflecting them in our legal strategy.
- Serving as a trusted business adviser who proactively engages management and the board around strategic business issues.
- Anticipating and proactively developing a strategy to address changes in regulatory requirements and public policy.
Catalyst:
- A catalyst enables competitive advantage by bringing a legal lens and the critical guidance needed to facilitate the CEO’s ability to select the right path forward and set the tone at the top for Safritecture.
Responsibilities include:
- Assessing whether business is carried out in the right way, developing the corporate risk profile, and a strong companywide compliance framework.
- Empowering the legal team to serve as trusted business advisers who are sought out to proactively help Safritecture develop solutions.
- Taking the lead in building a strong corporate culture that is aligned with the values of Safritecture around compliance and integrity.
- Challenging the status quo as a change agent.
- Driving satisfaction and experience of Safritecture clients, with legal as a value-added service
Guardian:
- In Guardian mode, you are expected to guide legal and regulatory matters for Safritecture, navigating complexity while mitigating risk.
- This is the foundational responsibility for the CLO and the in-house legal team.
Responsibilities include:
- Guarding corporate integrity and tone at the top within the Legal Unit.
- Understanding business and compliance risk, especially as it relates to drafting contracts with multiple vendors across Africa.
- Maintaining clarity between the roles of the board and management.
- Identifying and remediating exposure to brand and reputation risk.
- Managing governance approach on regulatory and legal issues.
Operator:
- As an operator, you will spend much of your time focusing on how to optimize the capabilities, talent, service levels, costs, and legal structure required to best serve Safritecture.
Responsibilities include:
- Creating leadership development and succession plans for the Legal Unit.
- Developing in conjunction with the Head of Communications (HOC) and the CEO, and implementing key performance metrics for the Legal Unit and its external counsel.
- Identifying skill and subject matter expertise gaps, and developing plans to fill them; identifying and implementing technology solutions for the Legal Unit.
- Refining the legal operating model to increase the effectiveness of the Legal Unit.
- Developing in conjunction with the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), accurate forecasting and reporting of legal spend.
Requirements:
Skills Set:
- Display a high capacity for multitasking.
- Maintain an intense level of professionalism while handling confidential information.
- Ability to communicate clearly and frequently.
- Effective use of Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
- Deep knowledge of financial accounting, payroll, and inventory software.
Language Skills:
- Proficiency in the English language is preferred.
