Job Description:

We are seeking a highly analytical and trend-focused Buyer & Merchandiser to join our team in Lagos. In this role, you will be the primary driver behind our product lifecycle, responsible for selecting the right products and ensuring they are available in the right quantities at the right time. You will bridge the gap between creative product selection and rigorous financial forecasting to maximize sell-through and profitability.

The ideal candidate possesses a "data-first" mindset, using advanced analytical tools to translate market trends into actionable procurement and stocking strategies.

Requirements:

Strategic Buying & Procurement

• Assortment Planning: Curate and select product ranges that align with brand identity, customer preferences, and seasonal trends.

• Supplier Management: Negotiate pricing, delivery terms, and lead times with local and international vendors to ensure optimal margins.

• Market Research: Conduct continuous market analysis to stay ahead of industry trends, competitor pricing, and shifting consumer behavior.

Merchandising & Inventory Optimization

• Trend Forecasting: Use historical data and market insights to forecast demand and plan stock levels accurately across various categories.

• Inventory Management: Monitor stock-turn, identifying slow-moving items for markdown and high-performers for immediate replenishment.

• Allocation & Replenishment: Ensure balanced stock distribution across retail outlets or digital channels to minimize out-of-stock incidents and overstocking.

Data Analytics & Reporting

• Performance Monitoring: Utilize Power BI and Excel to build dashboards that track key metrics such as Sell-Through Rate (STR), Gross Margin Return on Investment (GMROI), and Stock-to-Sales ratios.

• Financial Analysis: Manage the "Open-to-Buy" (OTB) plan, ensuring procurement remains within budget while meeting sales targets.

• Reporting: Present weekly and monthly performance reviews to management, providing data-backed recommendations for future buying cycles.

Qualifications and Skills:

• Experience:

  • 5–6 years of related experience in a structured business environment (Retail, E-commerce, or Wholesale).

  • Proven track record of managing significant inventory budgets and hitting margin targets.

• Technical Proficiency:

  • Advanced Excel: Mastery of VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, Pivot Tables, and complex data modeling is essential.

  • Power BI: Proficient in creating interactive dashboards and interpreting visual data.

• Analytical Skills: Strong ability to forecast demand according to trends and seasonal fluctuations.

• Commercial Acumen: A deep understanding of retail math and the financial drivers of a successful merchandising strategy.

• Location: Must be based in Lagos and familiar with the local consumer market.
