Job Description:

We are seeking a high-velocity, target-driven, and commercially astute Area Sales Manager (ASM) to spearhead our market penetration and revenue growth within the assigned territory. In this role, you will be the primary commercial driver responsible for managing our distribution network, optimizing secondary sales, and leading a high-performing team of field sales representatives.

The ideal candidate must possess an aggressive sales mindset, a deep understanding of route-to-market mechanics in Nigeria, and a proven track record of managing open-market distributors and modern trade channels.

Requirements:

Distributor Management & Route-to-Market

  • Partner Optimization: Manage, evaluate, and drive performance across the existing distributor network, ensuring optimal stock depth and credit compliance.

  • Network Expansion: Identify, onboard, and establish strategic relationships with new Key Distributors (KDs), wholesalers, and mega-retailers to expand territorial coverage.

  • Secondary Sales Drive: Oversee redistribution activities, ensuring consistent stock availability at the retail and open-market levels (pushing stock from KDs to retailers).

Territory Strategy & Execution

  • Sales Growth: Formulate and execute aggressive territorial sales plans to consistently meet and exceed monthly, quarterly, and annual volume targets.

  • Market Intelligence: Conduct regular market storming, competitive analysis, and price audits; translate field insights into actionable promotional strategies.

  • Visibility & Merchandising: Partner with trade marketing teams to ensure flawless execution of point-of-sale materials (POSMs), product merchandising, and localized activations.

Team Leadership & Capability Building

  • Field Supervision: Provide daily tactical leadership, route mapping, and target tracking for Territory Sales Officers (TSOs) and medical/field sales reps.

  • Mentorship: Conduct on-the-job coaching, sales pitches accompaniments, and performance reviews to build a highly motivated, elite field team.

Qualifications and Skills:

Experience & Background

  • FMCG Mandate: A solid, indisputable background in the FMCG sector is strictly mandatory. Applications from financial services, real estate, or other non-consumer goods sectors will not be considered.

  • Track Record: Minimum of 3 years of progressive experience specifically as an Area Sales Manager or Senior Territory Manager within an FMCG framework.

  • Age Specification: Must be maximum 36 years old at the time of application (required for territory structural deployment).

Core Skills & Competencies

  • Commercial Acumen: Elite negotiation, contract structuring, and relationship-building skills tailored for traditional open-market union leaders and modern corporate buyers.

  • Analytical Prowess: Proficient in sales data analysis, forecasting, inventory tracking, and territory mapping.

  • Mobility: In-depth knowledge of the geographical routes, cultural nuances, and trading dynamics of the assigned territory. Willingness to travel extensively within the region.
