Job Description:
- Our client is rapidly developing an international presence and a growing reputation in the global market, as a key player in Energy Services.
- The Utility Domain Consultant will provide domain expertise across power generation, transmission, and distribution to support digital transformation initiatives in Nigeria’s utilities sector.
- The role involves working with clients, regulators, and internal teams to identify operational challenges, define digital solutions, and deliver measurable improvements in efficiency, reliability, and customer experience.
- The consultant will bridge domain knowledge with AI, data, and digital technologies tailored for the Nigerian power sector.
Reports to: Practice Lead / Head of Consulting
Industry: Oil & Gas and Power Generation and Utilities
Key Responsibilities
Domain Consulting & Advisory:
- Provide subject matter expertise across generation, transmission, and distribution.
- Analyze utility operations (losses, outages, billing, collections) and identify optimization opportunities.
- Support clients in grid modernization, energy efficiency, and operational excellence initiatives.
Solution Design & Implementation:
- Translate business requirements into functional specifications for digital and AI solutions.
- Support deployment of smart grid, asset monitoring, predictive maintenance, and analytics use cases.
- Work closely with engineering teams to ensure domain alignment in solution design.
Business Development Support:
- Support pre-sales activities including proposals, demos, and client engagements.
- Identify new use cases such as loss reduction, revenue assurance, and outage management.
- Contribute to thought leadership in Nigeria’s utility and power sector.
Stakeholder Engagement:
- Engage with utility stakeholders across operations, commercial, and regulatory teams.
- Conduct workshops, requirement gathering, and solution validation sessions.
Data & Insights:
- Define KPIs such as ATC&C losses, SAIDI/SAIFI, billing efficiency, and collection rates.
- Support development of dashboards and analytics solutions for decision-making.
Regulatory & Local Context Alignment:
- Ensure alignment with Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) guidelines.
- Provide insights into sector reforms, tariff structures, and market challenges in Nigeria.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Energy, or related field
- MBA or Postgraduate degree preferred
- 4–5 years of experience in utilities/power sector
- Experience across at least two segments: generation, transmission, or distribution
- Experience in Nigeria or emerging markets preferred
Skills & Competencies:
- Strong understanding of power sector value chain (GENCO, TRANSCO, DISCO)
- Knowledge of smart grid, SCADA, AMI, and digital utility solutions
- Understanding of ATC&C losses, outage management, and revenue assurance
- Analytical thinking and problem-solving skills
- Strong communication and stakeholder management abilities
- Experience in consulting or client-facing roles preferred
- Ability to work in cross-functional and multicultural teams
- Familiarity with Nigerian regulatory and power market structure is a plus
