Job Description:
We are seeking a detail-oriented Microbiologist to join our environmental testing team. In this role, you will be responsible for the end-to-end microbiological assessment of water and sediment samples. Your work is critical in ensuring environmental safety and regulatory compliance. You will handle everything from culture media preparation and pathogen identification to maintaining sterile laboratory environments. The ideal candidate is a disciplined scientist who thrives in a process-driven laboratory, adheres strictly to Biosafety standards, and takes pride in the accuracy of their analytical reporting.
Requirements:
1. Microbiological Analysis & Culturing
Sample Testing: Conduct qualitative and quantitative microbiological analyses on water and sediment, including Total Coliform, E. coli, and heterotrophic plate counts.
Media Preparation: Accurately prepare culture media, reagents, and aseptic samples for diagnostic testing.
Interpretation: Analyze microbial growth and interpret results against established environmental health standards.
2. Quality Control & Sterile Techniques
Sterilization Protocols: Operate and maintain laboratory equipment such as autoclaves, incubators, and laminar flow hoods, ensuring rigorous sterilization of all tools.
Aseptic Technique: Maintain a sterile work environment to prevent cross-contamination of environmental samples.
SOP Adherence: Follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Quality Control (QC) frameworks to ensure the integrity of laboratory data.
3. Documentation & Lab Operations
Data Integrity: Record, analyze, and report test results with high precision; maintain meticulous laboratory notebooks and digital logs.
Biosafety Management: Implement and follow biosafety practices and laboratory safety protocols (PPE usage, chemical handling, and waste disposal).
Inventory & Support: Monitor reagent stocks and support general laboratory operations to ensure uninterrupted testing cycles.
Qualifications and Skills:
Education & Experience
Academic Background: Degree in Microbiology, Biology, or an Environmental Science related field.
Practical Tenure: Hands-on experience in water and sediment microbiology, including sample handling, culturing, and staining.
Environment: Proven experience working within an ISO-certified or similarly structured laboratory environment.
Technical Competencies
Laboratory Expertise: Deep understanding of membrane filtration, pour plate techniques, and biochemical identification tests.
Equipment Proficiency: Familiarity with microscopes, spectrophotometers, and pH meters.
Documentation Skills: Ability to generate clear, concise technical reports and maintain accurate audit trails.
